In addition to winning three international awards over the past week, (Best Residential Development at the International Property Awards, the International Highrise Award and CTBUH Best Tall Building in the Americas Award) BIG-Bjarke Ingles Group also just released a teaser video for Hyperloop One (bottom of page).
If you haven't yet heard about the project, the revolutionary high-speed transportation system is being developed by Elon Musk with the goal of enabling travel speeds of more than 700 mph. A zero-emission electric propulsion system carries passengers along through pressurized tubes and the high speeds attained would theoretically move people from Los Angeles to San Francisco in about 30 minutes.
BIG group were named as architectural partners for the project back in May this year and will be responsible for helping to envision the design of the Hyperloop – from its overall look to its pods and pressurized tubes.
It was back in 2013 that BIG designed the Vancouver House for Westbank in partnership with DIALOG and James KM Cheng Architects. The project has been celebrated worldwide with a slew of international awards already to its name. Located at the north end of the Granville Street Bridge, the twisting, multi-use tower of Vancouver House is expected to be completed by 2018. Units sold out long ago but assignments are available.
